Consented Invisibility

Consented Invisibility

An artistic piece can mobilize our senses and make us understand how people with disabilities live the world, their rights, needs and the barriers they face daily.

For this reason, within the framework of the Accessible Art Program, together with the artist Andrés Julio, we developed Consented Invisibility, an exhibition focused on promoting empathy and raising awareness among decision makers about the importance of creating accessible environments for all.

We especially appreciate the contributions of Dario Rocha Giménez and Ivan Berrío Toscano and the photographer Carlos Alcívar for providing us with his collaboration in registering the works.

To look and see, to look without seeing… to look, without noticing inaccessibility, is to produce invisibility, consensual invisibility. Subvert looking by touch to see without looking.

The tool that supports our rights and our individual guarantees is the law. This is not inherent to man, it is a social construction, it is a crutch for society to walk. For people with disabilities, accessibility means possibility.

Occupying space is at the same time redefining it. The staircase is a space and a tool, it allows you to go from one place to another, just as the wheelchair is for people with reduced mobility.
